Sutherland students attend Sports Leaders workshop

On Tuesday 8th October at Harvey Haddon sport and Leisure centre four Sports Leaders Level 1 students from Sutherland House School attended a workshop run by Nottingham Active. Around 100 students from other Nottingham schools were in attendance.

The workshop consisted of three sports being taught, delivered and reflected upon. The three sports were: dodgeball, kurling and Personal best challenges. The Nottingham Active team demonstrated how to set the activities up, the equipment required, the court and measurement appropriate and how to score and referee them fairly and within the rules.

After each session we returned to the group session and answered questions on each activity such as: how to make them more inclusive, how to make them more challenging and these were shared on a group board with the other school feedback. The intentions and timeline around the workshop are to deliver a sports day at the students’ school, delivered by the Sports Leaders Level 1 students to KS3 students in the Spring term.

We have been asked by Nottingham Active to record the session and give feedback to them on how it went, what we learnt and how the students have developed. The evidence from this session and future planning will be documented and go towards their criteria for their Sports Leaders Level 1 qualification this academic year.

This is the first time Nottingham Active have run this workshop.

The four students from Sutherland House school were: Cody Alfred, Mason Brierley, Dawid Mazurek and Ethan Barnes. All the students successfully completed the workshop and have learned valuable skills in the process of being a competent and confident sports leader.
